Extractions without the referral runaround
Most offices refer surgical extractions and wisdom teeth to an outside oral surgeon, which means another office, another wait, and more days in pain. At Advanced Family Dentistry, extractions are handled in-house by Dr. Justin Rider, whose postgraduate training spans oral surgery, wisdom tooth extraction, and IV sedation. Diagnosis and treatment often happen in the same visit.
We only pull teeth that need pulling
Our first instinct is always to save your natural tooth; a root canal and crown usually serve you better and cost less over time than an extraction plus replacement. But when a tooth is beyond saving, cracked below the gumline, loosened by advanced gum disease, or an impacted wisdom tooth causing pain, removing it is the healthiest choice. We'll give you an honest recommendation either way, with the reasoning, before anything happens.

- Planned in 3D: for surgical extractions and wisdom teeth, our in-house CBCT scanner shows Dr. Rider exactly where roots sit relative to nerves and sinuses before we begin. More on our technology page.
- Comfort first: local anesthetic for simple extractions, with nitrous or IV sedation available for surgical cases and anxious patients.

Extraction questions
Does getting a tooth pulled hurt?
The area is fully numbed first, so you'll feel pressure but not pain. Soreness afterward typically fades within a few days and is managed with over-the-counter pain relief and our aftercare instructions.
Do you take out wisdom teeth?
Yes. Dr. Rider has advanced training in wisdom tooth extraction, including impacted teeth, with IV sedation available so you can sleep through it.
How much does an extraction cost?
It depends on the tooth and whether it's a simple or surgical extraction. We verify your insurance first and give you the exact cost in writing before treatment, and monthly payment plans are available on our Payments page.
