Dr. Ron Malakpour, DDS, MS

The specialist down the hall

Dr. Ron Malakpour is our in-house endodontist, a board-eligible specialist in diagnosing tooth pain and treating the inside of the tooth. At most dental offices, a root canal means a referral across town. Here, it means walking down the hall. Dr. Malakpour handles root canal treatment at our office, including the complex cases like curved canals and retreatments, and he is sometimes the doctor treating root-related dental emergencies the same day they call in.

Education and training

Dr. Malakpour graduated with academic distinction from the West Virginia University School of Dentistry in 2017 and completed externships at The University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He then returned to West Virginia to pursue his dream, completing his post-graduate residency in endodontics and earning a Masters degree in Dentistry in 2019.

Before moving to Arizona in 2021, he practiced in West Virginia and Minnesota in both private practice settings and general practice dental clinics, treating the full range of endodontic cases that walk through a general dentist's door.

Research

Dr. Malakpour's research examined how root canal preparation affects tooth strength: "Assessment of Fracture Resistance of Maxillary First Molars after Root Canal Preparation Using Three Different Rotary Instruments (V-Taper, ProTaper, Vortex Blue): Finite Element Analysis," accessible at the WVU School of Dentistry. In plain language, he studied which instruments leave a treated tooth strongest, which is exactly the question a patient keeping their tooth for decades wants answered.
