Root canals by a root canal specialist
Most dental offices refer root canals to an outside endodontist. At Advanced Family Dentistry, the endodontist is already here. Dr. Ron Malakpour, DDS, MS, completed his post-graduate residency in endodontics and performs root canal therapy right in our Oracle Road office, in the same chair where you get your checkups.
That matters for two reasons. First, speed: when a tooth needs a root canal, it usually hurts, and being treated here often means being treated sooner, sometimes the same day you call. Second, continuity: your dentist and your specialist share one office, one record, and one conversation about your care.
What a root canal actually is

A root canal removes infected or inflamed tissue from inside the tooth, cleans and seals the canals, and preserves the natural tooth. With modern anesthetic and technique, most patients describe it as no worse than getting a filling. The alternative, extraction, usually costs more in the long run once you account for replacing the tooth.

Does a root canal hurt?
The procedure itself is done under local anesthetic and most patients feel pressure rather than pain. Soreness afterward is typically managed with over-the-counter pain relief for a few days.
Root canal or extraction, which is better?
When a tooth can be saved, saving it usually preserves better function and costs less over time than extraction plus replacement. Dr. Malakpour will give you an honest assessment either way.
Will insurance cover it?
Root canal therapy is a covered benefit under most dental plans. We verify your coverage and explain costs before treatment begins.
